Job description

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission, the direct supervision of the National Programme Officer and in close cooperation with Thematic Project Coordinators, the successful candidate will provide support in implementing project activities related to legal matters for Ukrainian and Non-EU/EEA migrants and refugees in Poland.

 

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • Prepare short analytical papers on national and international legal regulations regarding migrants and refugees, and their relevant updates.
  • Set individual assistance plans, provide information and advice to migrants and refugees regarding, inter alia, welfare rights, housing, access to health care services, family reunification, foster care and education, etc.
  • Provide support to migrants in filling in relevant forms and/or any other legal documents, e.g. temporary guardian application.
  • Maintain filling of reports with actions undertaken for migrants and ensure deadlines are met for their legal and administrative procedures.
  • Conduct research and provide counselling, inter alia, on legal and contractual issues. Ensure that IOM’s activities are implemented in accordance with the IOM Constitution and other relevant provisions.
  • In the case of unaccompanied migrant children (UMCs) or other vulnerable migrants, support the teams operating in the field with necessary legal information.
  • Maintain close communication and collaboration with authorities in relation with UMCs’ wellbeing.
  • Undertake official travel as required to support legal procedures for migrants.
  • Performs such other duties that may be assigned.

Requirements

Education

  • University degree in Law from an accredited academic institution with minimum two years of relevant work experience.
  • Master’s in Migration Law will be a distinct advantage

Experience and Skills

  • A background in Human Rights law, with specialization in child protection or counter-trafficking law, is preferred;
  • Previous experience in providing counseling to migrants preferred.
  • Awareness of refugees and migrants legal issues;
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, personal commitment, efficiency and flexibility;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and difficult conditions;
  • Computer literacy in standard software applications (MS Office, etc).
  • Valid driver’s license with at least five years driving experience an advantage.

Languages

  • Fluency in Polish and English (written and oral)is required; any additional language will be an advantage.
