About IP Optical Networks

Our IP/Optical Networks business group (ION) includes IP, optical and network automation technologies and related services sold to our communication service provider customers as well as adjacent markets including webscale companies and enterprises. Our comprehensive wide area networking (WAN) solutions enable our customers to build and operate automated, secure, and high-performance networks at massive scale – helping to interconnect people and things from any broadband access modality to – and among - edge clouds, central clouds, the Internet, and other services and data centers.

Role Description

Senior Network Automation Architect is responsible for automation process standardization for existing processes and provides new solutions to replace manual approach with a goal of deployment time and cost reduction for the project run by the Network Services Delivery Center NSDC.

Main areas of responsibility

• Ensures that automation applied to projects follows internal standards with regards to currently used tools, libraries and techniques
• Attends customer discussions or workshops to analyze customers’ technical & business needs to define automation requirements, establish automation plans and priorities
• Project overview in terms of possible automation in initial stage of project with PM/TPM/IP SME
• Describing the automation project requirements in terms of LAB and network access if applicable
• Integration of existing automation tools into new automation process if reasonable
• Evaluation of automation requests to avoid unnecessary work
• Acceptance of client’s specifications for new tool or new features for existing ones
• Proposal of input data format when needed
• Support & mentor IP SMEs working on automation during project capability build
• Incorporates new technologies/platforms and proactively encouraging IP engineers/IP SMEs to use them
• Responsible for improvement initiatives, issues handling, technical knowledge sharing
• Work closely with ION project management community to address technical matters
• Attend important projects technical activities (PoC, FOA and rollout kick off)
• Run NSDC internal technical calls
• Produce customer project related technical documentation and presentations if needed
• Creation of new tools/libraries and standardize them
• Create documentation of automation tools
• Tracks industry current developments as well as explores new innovative ways by attending industry conferences & events
• Experiments with new automation technologies, frameworks, libraries to assess usability for projects run by NDSC
• Ensure that Nokia information security practices are followed in accordance with established policies and procedures of the organization

Key Skills and Experience

• minimum of 10 years of relevant telecom experience in the field of service provider IP/MPLS solutions
• advanced practical knowledge of IP technical solutions - IPV4, IPV6, routing and switching, IP/MPLS services: L2_VPN, L3_VPN , VLL ,QoS, multicast, BNG, CGNAT, redundancy.
• hands-on in configuring routers/switches with Command Line Interface , Nokia SROS, Cisco IOS, Juniper JUNOS
• Python working experience, able to write scripts to cover automation area
• ability to translate algorithms into a code
• understanding DevOps approach and tools (Ansible)
• hands-on with GIT repositories
• familiarity with self-testing code approach
• familiarity with virtualization technology (VMware, docker, vagrant)
• virtual routers technologies, SDN/NFV in Service Provider environment working experience will be a plus
